Whitcome Residence

This master suite was designed by Derrick Wettstein and the owners to expand the existing bathroom and create a spacious dressing room, foyer, bedroom and dining area. The project began with a home energy audit by Terra Logos which revealed numerous areas for improvement. Existing wall cavities throughout the entire house and the foundation were insulated with spray foam and a tankless water heater was installed to feed the larger bathroom. One of the challenges was integrating and weaving in the existing and new oak flooring in each room to make it look seamless with no height change. The trim work was custom milled to match the original, and matching pine paneling was used to extend parts of the dining room. An existing window in the dining room was expanded to fit a new double French door while the stone work on the exterior of the house was cut and flamed with water and torch to create a natural edge. All fixtures and flooring removed during demolition were donated for reuse.
